Learning English

Learning English can be a task but many people succeed. Many people learn English as a second language. English is considered an international language, often spoken in most countries with slightly different dialects. English is probably one of the most difficult languages to learn. With its many grammar rules and rules with exceptions, learning English as a second language will not come easy. Studying and using a tutor will help you get a better grasp on the English language.

There are several unusual rules when it comes to English, some of which follows:
1. The word "do" is used as an action word, often used to replace the word "go". This is a common mistake that new English learners make. Instead of "I go there" use "I do go there".

2. Any word starting with the letter Q will always have a U just after it. Quick, Quality and Quail are some examples.

3. When no vowels are in a word, usually the word will contain the letter Y. Try, my, fry, cry are all words with no vowels.

4. Many of those learning English will apply the word "the" before a name of a person. This is incorrect so take this into consideration when writing with the use of names.

5. The words "a" and "an" are a little more difficult. The general rule is to use "an" if the word following it begins with a vowel. Of course there are exceptions to this rule too, such as the use of an in front of honest.

These are only a small section of unusual rules for English. Learning to speak English and learning the correct way to write English are two different things. Speaking English will not require you to know correct grammatical rules, such as capitalization, commas, and other common written rules. Often English learners find it easier to first learn to speak the English language before taking on the task of writing English. Finding a good tutor or online English learning program will help you to take on both tasks. Learning English can help you in many ways, from promotions at jobs to better social skills.
